The Old City of Jerusalem

One of the holiest and most visited locations

  • The Old City, one of the holiest and most visited locations in the world, is just a short walking distance from the hotel.
This city is a home to structures and ruins significant to the three monotheistic religions: the Western Wall and the Temple Mount for Jews, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre for Christians and al-Aqsa Mosque and the Dome of the Rock for Muslims. It was added to the UNESCO World Heritage Site List in 1981.

Thousands are drawn on pilgrimages to the Old City each year to take in the breathtaking skyline of the domes, towers and Jerusalem-stone walls.
The Old City of Jerusalem is divided into four quarters; the Jewish Quarter, the Armenian Quarter, the Christian Quarter, and the Muslim Quarter.

    The Jewish quarter
, dates to roughly 1400, is the main residential area for Jews in the Old City. This quarter includes the Western Wall which is a holy place for Jews since it was part of the Temple and close to the Holy of Holies in the Temple.

    The Christian Quarter
is the home of 40 holy sites to Christians. This quarter was built around the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, where Jesus is said to have been crucified and buried.
Many Christian pilgrims walk along the Via Dolorosa following the final path of Jesus.
The market, one of Jerusalem’s most popular tourist attractions, is located in the Christian quarter. A colorful market where one can buy souvenirs, ethnic costumes, decorated pottery, candles, rugs, mats, beads and jewelry, glass lamps, and decorative items.

    The Muslim Quarter
is the largest quarter in the old city. Here you will find The Dome of the Rock, where Muslims believe that Muhammad ascended into Heaven, and Al-Aqsa Mosque, located on the Hara mesh-Sharif.

The Armenian Quarter is the smallest quarter of the Old City. This area is home to an ancient community of 2,500 Armenians, who have resided here for over 2,000 years.
The St. James Cathedral was built in the 12th century. This church became the center for the Armenian community in Israel. It is one of the most beautiful churches in the country and is built upon the remains of a Byzantine church.
